As everyone is now aware, we are holding a Sponsored Walk in the school on the week beginning May 17th. This is to be a fun event with the money raised helping school funds and our chosen charity for this year – Ringsend/Irishtown Special Olympics Team. Here is a little information about the Team.
May 2010
“Special Olympics Ireland is first and foremost a sporting organisation for people with an intellectual disability, but it provides athletes with far more than the physical benefits of sport. It’s about team spirit, friendships and fun; it’s about a feeling of belonging, and ultimately improving quality of life.
Special Olympics changes lives in so many different ways. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends, realise their dreams, and know they can fit in – Special Olympics enables them to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too.
Irishtown Special Olympics train every Monday night in Clanna Gael Fontenoy with their coaches Carmel, Bernie and Gerard. They celebrate 21 years in Irishtown/Ringsend. Their team is going from strength to strength and we wish them all the best in their upcoming events.”
