Portugal is a European country in the west of Europe. Portugal has been part of the E.U. since 1986. It is boardered by the Alantic Ocean on the west and south and by Spain in the north and east.
The capital city of Portugal is Lisbon. The estimated population of the country is 10.6 million. The national language is Portugese. Portugese is a Roman language which derived from Vulgar Latin.
Portugal has always been well represented in the arts. For example famous poets Luis De Camoes and Fernando Pessoa are from Portugal and also international football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portugal is well known for its one hundred ways to cook cod. Portugal’s national dish is called “Bacalhau,” dried salted cod. The Portugese became obsessed with this dish in the 16th century.
One of the most interesting aspects of Portugal is its geography, comprising of mountains, sub tropical volcanic islands, lush green meadows and beaches.
