Sergeant Cleary with some of our footsoldiers!
The girls in Ms. O Riordain’s Class got a very special treat today, when Chelsea and Amie Cleary’s (Great!) Grandad, Michael, came in to give a talk on his life in the Irish Army. He brought lots of interesting items with him to show to the girls. These included some newspaper cuttings, many black and white photographs and his very impressive collection of medals, beautifully presented in their own special glass case.
Before retiring from the army in 1971, Michael served on several missions overseas with the United Nations. He spent time in the Congo and Cyprus, among other places. It was very kind of him to share his time and experience with the girls and it was clear for everyone to see how proud Chelsea is of her (SuperGreat!)Grandad. We were delighted to have him visit and maybe his visit might be the first of many from other Grandparents, who must have countless interesting tales to tell.
