Parental Complaints Procedure

From January 2024, primary schools have a new parental complaints procedure.

The Parental Complaints Procedure helps parents and teachers work together to solve grievances and complaints which can arise, from time to time, in schools. Based on principles of fair procedures, the intention at each stage is to provide an open and clearly defined process to facilitate parents/legal guardians in raising concerns about their own child/children in an agreed, fair and transparent manner, with a view to seeking an early resolution of the issue.

Stage 1 – parent/guardian meets with teacher, parent/guardian meets with principal, parent/guardian meets with chairperson.

If complaint not resolved

Stage 2 – written complaint sent to the chairperson, Chairperson provides a copy to the teacher, chairperson convenes meeting(s)

If complaint not resolved

Stage 3 – Chairperson makes a formal report to the Board of Management. Either the complaint is concluded or it will proceed to a hearing .

Stage 4 – Written decision from the Chairperson and the complaint is concluded.

Building Project

St Patrick’s Girls’ National School and St Patrick’s boys’ National School both gave a joint proposal to the Department of Education in September 2019 to open 4 special classes; 2 for each school. This proposal involved demolishing the existing PE hall in the back yard and constructing a new build to house the 4 classrooms, sensory areas, PE hall, kitchen and garden facilities. We are delighted that this was approved by the Department of Education in April 2020. Both principals and Board of Managements have been working on this project and to date, all contractors and an architect have been appointed. At present, there are site surveys taking place at present with the hope that we can then move onto drawing up plans and apply for planning permission. The end date for the project hopes to be autumn 2024.

STEM

The girls did fabulous work in the area of electricity this week. Many thanks to Google and Teresa Weafer for kindly donating the equipment to make this possible.

The Ark Art in Schools

We have been very lucky to be selected by the Ark to participate in The Ark, Art in Schools project. This means that every few weeks The Ark will deliver a piece of art to our school for our girls to appreciate.

The first installation was a painting called: ‘My Strange Fruit’ by Nickie Hayden.

Here are paintings that our Senior Infants painted after looking at a discussing the piece:

We got our new delivery on Friday morning of ‘Sheep’ by Olivia Musgrave.

Our girls have enjoyed the new addition to our school!
